Welcome Back to School!

With school starting on Monday, we at the Evelyn Meador Branch Library want to officially welcome back to our students! We have missed a lot of you over the summer (you know who you are) and we are excited to have you coming back to the library after school!

To welcome you back, we have a lot of activities in the library these first few weeks, and we want to make sure you know about the things you can do. First off, we are going to be having programs after school pretty much every day. For example, on Monday, August 20, we will be having a First Day of School Party at 4:00, which will be a great way for our teens to celebrate (or commiserate) being back at school. Some of the other programs we’ll have are: Lego Pictionary, Chalk the Block, DIY Kool Aid Lip Gloss, and Virtual Reality Projects. If any of these sound interesting to you, make sure you check out our online calendar to get further details.

Most of these programs will be happening right after school ends. However, if you come in to the library at other times, we will still have plenty of things for you to do. Come into the Teen Isle or the Children’s Area to find projects to do! In the Children’s Area, there are always toys and small crafts to work on and the Teen Isle is following this model, with games, gaming systems, and a craft in the area at all times. Just check out the room to find something that you’ll enjoy!

Finally, as you start to plan for your school year, the library is also offering a chance for our teens to volunteer and help the library in a meaningful way with the organization of a Youth Advisory Council! For ages 13-18, this is a program that allows teens to participate in planning and running library events, and to give feedback and participate in the running of the library. Applications for this council are available at the library reference desk or in the Teen Isle, and can be turned in any time prior to September 7. If you need volunteer hours or just love the library, this is a great opportunity to become involved.

We hope you are all in for a great school year and we look forward to seeing you all soon!
