What I Did On My Summer Vacation

Library of Congress Reading RoomWhere does a librarian go for her summer vacation? To the Library of Congress, of course! I grabbed a backpack and headed to Washington, DC, with one hope in mind; a behind the scenes tour of the Library of Congress. That was exactly what I got! Chills came over me as I walked up the stairs to this great library. I imagined all the famous folks that walked before me; a historical flashback to Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers debating the start of the library and the importance of research and education, the importance of our free and easy access to knowledge and the importance of a federal building that housed the collective wisdom of our country. The ornate decorations illustrated the value given to the library's collection and the symbolism throughout the building was a tip of the hat to the great learned scholars that came before. If you ever get a chance, see it in person for yourself, but be sure to visit it virtually to get just a small sample of the wonders held there.
