What's In a Name?
In the grand tradition of authors such as Mark Twain (real name Samuel Clemens) and Lewis Carroll (real name Charles Dodgson) Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has written a mystery novel using the pen name Robert Galbraith. Authors use pseudonyms for a variety of reasons, including having an extremely common name, wanting to publish books in multiple genres without audience expectations or just to preserve their anonymity. Some pseudonyms are common knowledge. Most people know that Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb are the same person, but many authors are not so open, which can cause readers to miss books from much beloved authors because they are not in the know. Here are the romance authors I’ve found who use pen names to write other novels, some romance and some used for non-romances. Which authors are not on the list?
Dinah McCall aka Sharon Sala
Jayne Ann Krentz aka Jayne Castle aka Amanda Quick
Meggin Cabot aka Meg Cabot
Madeline Baker aka Amanda Ashley
Michelle Maddox aka Morgan Rhodes aka Michelle Rowen
M.C. Beaton aka Marion Chesney
Kinley MacGregor aka Sherrilyn Kenyon
Jessica Bird aka J.R. Ward
