Who's going to win?

On January 27, at the American Library Convention in Philadelphia, the winner of the 2014 Newbery Medal will be announced. (You can actually watch the announcement if you want to!)

So who's going to win? Here are some titles that people are saying are contenders:

Flora and Ulysses by Kate DiCamillo (who has already won the Newbery for The Tale of Despereaux) is the story of a girl and a squirrel; this one is on the new Texas Bluebonnet list.

The Real Boy by Anne Ursu - a fantasy about magic and saving the village. I gave it 4 stars (out of 5)

The Water Castle by Megan Blakemore - a story of some kids, and old house, and the search for the fountain a youth. (I give this one 4.5 stars)

The Thing about Luck by Cynthia Kadahota this book has already won the National Book Award. When farm girl Summer thinks that her family's bad luck can't get any worse, it does.

The True Blue Scouts of Sugar Man Swamp by Kathi Appelt - raccoons, wild pigs, alligators, oh my!

Hold Fast by Blue Balliett-- a girl's father disappears and her family becomes homeless; she's got to find him

One Came Home by Amy Timberlake - an old west adventure (but not really in the old west - in Wisconsin)
