You Work Hard for It. Learn How To Make It Work For You: Houston Money Week @ HCPL

When someone says “money is power,” people tend to think of the kind of power only the very wealthy can wield, but that old saw applies to people like you and me just as well. No matter how little we have, the better we handle our finances the greater our ability to do the things we want and need to do—whether that is putting a little aside much deserved vacation or putting our kids through college.

During the week of April 11 – 18, Harris County Public Library along with organizations across the area will participate in Houston Money Week, a financial education initiative sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Houston Branch.

Houston Money Week programs for adults at HCPL include such hot topics as protecting yourself against identity theft, home ownership 101, and how to bounce back after a financial setback. But just as the road to reading is best started early, the road to financial responsibility starts in childhood, so all twenty-six HCPL branches will be hosting special story times that teach children essential concepts and skills through stories, activities and crafts.

Most of us think we know how to handle money. We don’t spend more than we earn. We shop the sales. We try to use our credit cards wisely, but the frightening fact is that even if we do all the right things, many of us are just a string of bad luck, an unexpected layoff, or a health crisis away from serious financial instability. Houston Money Week at HCPL will help you learn strategies to put you on firmer ground.

We're proud to participate in Houston Money Week, but we want to remind you that HCPL gives you year-around access to financial information resources from job search skills programs to Money Smart Financial Education and Morningstar investment research tools. Don’t know where to start? ask a librarian.
