2006 National Film Registry Additions

The 2006 additions to the National Film Registry were announced December 27. Each year, the Librarian of Congress names 25 films that are "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant to be added to the list. There are now 450 films on the list.

Well, now our chat reference service is open 24 hours a day - 7 days a week - 365 days a year to answer your questions. The service is part of the QuestionPoint 24/7 service and is sponsored by the Houston Area Library System; Harris County Public Library, Fort Bend County Libraries, and Houston Public Library are the local participating libraries. The service is staffed by Harris County staff from 1 PM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday. During other hours, you will be assisted by librarians from other library systems throughout the United States. Because you may be assisted by librarians from other systems who do not have access to your account record, we recommend you use our Ask a Librarian email service for questions about your account.

President Gerald R. Ford, 1913-2006

Gerald Ford Portrait, www.whitehouse.govGerald Ford, 38th President of the United States, passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, December 26. Ford became president when President Nixon resigned in 1974 due to the Watergate scandal.

The CSPAN2 Book TV Bus Is Coming...

The Book TV Bus launched in September of 2005 and has been touring the nation ever since, promoting C-SPAN2's unique weekend-long programming of nonfiction books and authors, and collecting interesting literary programming from communities around the country.

The bus is a customized 45-foot long motor coach with a mobile television production studio and media demonstration center on board, giving the crew a perfect venue to conduct author interviews and the public a vivid glimpse into TV production and Book TV's programming.

Join the CSPAN2 Book TV Bus on Thursday January 11 from 12-2 at the Katherine Tyra @ Bear Creek Branch Library. Or catch the Book TV Bus at the Cy-Fair College Branch Library from 3-6 pm on Thursday January 11.

Books @ the Movies This Weekend

This weekend two book related movies open - Charlotte's Web and Eragon - both of which I have been anticipating. Eragon is based on the book of the same name by Christopher Paolini about a boy who becomes a dragon rider. Charlotte's Web is the classic children's story by E.B. White about Wilbur the pig and his friend Charlotte the spider. Charlotte's Web was was previously made into an animated movie back in the 1970s by Hanna Barbara.
