Shadow Play

School is almost out. What are kids to do? Thankfully, the Harris County Public Library's excellent Summer Reading Program is on the horizon. In addition, author Susan Williamson makes it easy for kids to fill their days with fun activities in her book Summer fun: 60 activities for a kid-perfect summer. There are things to do on rainy days, sunny days, and on summer nights.

One of the activities for rainy days in Williamson's book is to make a movable shadow puppet. With a pencil, some poster board, a hole punch, and other materials, kids can make a puppet and put on a fun puppet show.

Aldine Teens Show Library Love in National Video Contest

Teens After Hearing About Thier 2nd Place Finish! The teens at the Aldine Branch have been very busy making videos. They even submitted an entry into the American Library Association's Why I Need My Library video contest. Over 150 groups took on the challenge of creating an original 1-3 minute video demonstrating why libraries are needed more than ever. Out of all of the groups the teens from Aldine took second place! Second place in a contest this big is very impressive. Great job guys!
