OUTREACH TO ALDINE ISD

Conley Elementary (AISD) Open House, 3/8/11It was inspiring to see the crowd of families in attendance at the Conley Elementary School Open House (Aldine Independent Schhol District) on Tuesday evening, March 8. Conley is located halfway between the Aldine and Barbara Bush branches of the Harris County Public Library. Members of the Barbara Bush Library Friends distributed handouts about the library system and gave the children bookworm erasers and READ temporary tattoos. Best of all, they made 33 library cards for the children and their families. It is great to see the schools, libraries, and parents working together for the good of these young children.

Beloved Book Characters Visit 5 Library Branches

madeline

In honor of Read Across America Day on Wednesday, March 2nd, some of our favorite characters from Main Street Theater will visit five library locations after school and share their stories.  There's Madeline, the French schoolgirl, Moose, the hungry guest from If You Give a Moose a Muffin, Drover, Hank the Cowdog's loyal sidekick, Farmer Alfalfa, the corn growing goat from Busytown, and our favorite Herdman from

HATCH early learning

Visitors to the Aldine Library may have noticed them. Parents may have considered them to be regular desktop computers for children. However, these are no ordinary machines. These two computers in the children's section of the Aldine Library are Hatch learning centers. These desktops offer educational games that touch upon skill areas of pre-literacy, language, math, social studies, and science. The content of these games is tied into national pre-k standards and the findings of the National Early Literacy Panel and the National Research Council Committee on Early Childhood Mathematics.

Have your child pull up a seat at one of our Hatch computers today. Take advantage of an opportunity for your child to learn and have fun!
