At 4:30PM we will be gathering in the YA area to listen to Paul Easterling, a professor of African American studies at the University of Houston. He will be sharing how hip hop has become a cultural phenomena, expression, and experience for African American people. See you there!

Legislative Day is Coming!

Legislative Day is just around the corner and Aldine Branch customers have already made their voices heard. We had over one hundred and twenty comment cards returned to us and many more informed us that they completed the on-line survey. The Aldine Branch can't thank its customers enough. Don't forget that we always have a comment box available at the information desk if you ever want to share anything else with us.

A Film About Jimi Hendrix

The year was 1969. Guitarist Jimi Hendrix had disbanded his group the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Looking towards new musical directions, Hendrix recruited some friends to form a band. Bassist Billy Cox, together with drummer friend Buddy Miles, formed a group with Hendrix called the Band of Gypsys. They made their live debut at the Fillmore East in New York City on New Year's Eve, 1969, for a series of four shows spread over two nights. The performances were recorded to fulfill Hendrix's obligation to produce an LP of new material on the Capitol records label.

Art Cart 2011

The Aldine Branch teens have begun work on our 3rd annual art cart. The last two years the Aldine cart, along with carts from other branches, have been present at HCPL's booth at the Houston Art Car Parade. Stay tuned for further details and see what the teens come up with this year.
