Mural in Motion

A life-size, ceramic mosaic on a curved wall greets patrons at the entrance of the Aldine Library. Do you know its history? Under the direction of artist Reginald Adams with the Museum of Fine arts and the guidance of Israel Barbosa, Stovall Middle School students and four Aldine teens helped create the 10 foot high and 80 foot wide mosaic in the summer of 2002. The mural is based on a photo of 12 real people with books, such as Adams with his son on his shoulders, Barbosa on a skateboard, children walking, riding a bicycle, pulling a wagon, and on roller skates. The mural also features a senior adult man pushing a woman in a wheelchair.

For the next five weeks we’ll be in the meeting room from 3:30 to 4:30 every Wednesday. Space is limited, so it’s first-come, first-served. This week’s topic will be Web sites for Music Lovers.

34 Years!

Aldine Library building mural

1976. The year of bellbottoms, the Bicentennial, and the Bay City Rollers. Another milestone of '76 was the establishment of the Aldine Branch Library!

Come join us on Thursday, April 8th at 1 PM as we celebrate 34 wonderful years of library service to the Aldine community. Ms. Rhoda Goldberg, the Harris County Public Library director, will be on site to give some anniversary remarks. We will also enjoy eating cake and thumbing through scrapbooks of images that chronicle the history of Aldine Library.

We look forward to seeing you on April 8th!

Seeing Blue

Customers at the Aldine Library may notice that the children's section is a little blue these days. Blue dots now adorn the spines of our Early Science books such as Horses by Robin Nelson.

The Early Science books are located atop the concept books shelf in the children's section.

Come take a look today!
