American Red Cross 133rd Founding Anniversary

May 21st is the 133rd founding anniversary of the American Red Cross by Clara Barton.  In 1864 the Red Cross was founded in Switzerland by representatives from 16 European nations.   For more information on the American Red Cross go to www.redcross.org.

Expanded Hours at Five HCPL Branches

More time at your libraryOn June 1, 2014, customers of five Harris County Public Library branches will see an increase in their library’s operating hours. 

  • Galena Park, Northwest and South Houston branch libraries, which are currently closed on Fridays, will all be open Fridays 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Jacinto City and Stratford branches will add more weekend hours. They, along with all other HCPL locations, will be open Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

28th Annual Houston Art Car Parade--Saturday, May 10, 2014

Saturday, May 10th is the 28th annual Houston Art Car Parade.  It is the oldest and largest art car parade in the world.  The parade features mobile masterpieces from the surreal to the sublime.  Other events associated with the parade are the Art Car Ball and Sneak Peek.  An estimated 250,000 people will be in attendance.
