Their Eyes Were Watching God - Kingwood Book Group October Discussion

Join the Kingwood Book Group on October 19th as they discuss Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. This book is the 2009 title for Houston’s Books on the Bayou annual program. This program is in its 8th year and seeks to bring together an entire city through reading and discussing the same book.

Construction Continues!

Here is our monthly aerial photo courtesy of KBL and SpawGlass, the construction company for the new library. The recent rain greened up the retention pond, which is the most notable change. Since the building is now roofed in, interior changes can’t be easily seen by air. Currently, the exterior is being “clad” – a construction term for the brick and stone being applied to the exterior. These are exciting times!

Ikebana with Keiko!

Want to learn about the beautiful art of Ikebana? It is a disciplined art form in which nature and humanity are brought together. Ikebana is a creative expression that draws emphasis towards shape, line, and form with certain rules governing it.

The main rule is that all the elements used in construction MUST be organic, whether they are branches, leaves, grasses, or flowers. Keiko Moeller will demonstrate the 5 types of Ikebana at the Kingwood Branch Library on Wednesday, September 23rd at 10:30 am.

Sign-up is required; each participant needs to bring a flower vase (preferably a wide one), a pair of shears and flowers – minimum 3 different kinds of flowers/green leaves/branches 3-5 stems each.
