 Facebook is being used by virtually every age group today. Come to the library and learn the basics about opening and using a Facebook account. Please have a working email account before coming to the class.The class will be held Thursday, October 20 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm. To register please call the library at 281-471-4022.

Book Discussion: The Train to Crystal City

Book Jacket for 'The Train to Crystal City' by Jan Jarboe RussellPlease join us on Wednesday, October 12, 10:30-11:30 am for our discussion of 'The Train to Crystal City', the Gulf Coast Reads selection for 2016, by Jan Jarboe Russell. This book describes a little known aspect of Texas history when, during World War II, a unique internment camp was located in Crystal City, Texas. Near the end of our discussion, we will watch a 9-minute film that was put out by the U. S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1945 about the "Alien Enemy Detention Facility". Even if you have not yet read the book, you are welcome to join us to learn more about the topic. In the Meeting Room at La Porte Community Library, 600 S. Broadway, La Porte, TX.

On Thursday, October 13 beginning at 10:30 am our regular computer class instructor will be available to meet with individuals for a 30 minute slot to answer some of these questions. Are you having trouble with your email? Don't know how to cut and paste? Want to start applying for jobs online? Bring technology questions and get one-on-one assistance! La Porte ISD Celebrates 100 Years

The celebration of La Porte ISD’s 100th Anniversary will culminate with activities during Homecoming weekend Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.  There will be a  very special appearance at the opening ceremony 10:00 am Oct 1 by La Porte’s own Kerron Clement, a 2003 La Porte High School graduate. Clement recently won a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, and he is returning to his alma mater for the celebration. A 100th Anniversary Block Party will follow with a wide variety of games and activities.
