Gulf Coast Reads month is here and we will be celebrating this year’s selection with two programs:

-Wednesday, October 8 (tomorrow!), 10:30 am -11:30 am, will be our Book Discussion. Light refreshments will be served.

-Monday, October 13, 7 pm – 8 pm, Lisa Struthers, Library Director for the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Library at the San Jacinto Museum of History, will be here to tell us about the materials available at the Monument library. Ms. Struthers will highlight items that relate to the themes in Remember Ben Clayton. Light refreshments will also be served at this gathering.

Both events will be held in the big Meeting Room at the library.

You are welcome to attend either program whether or not you have read the book, but please be aware that the Book Discussion will contain spoilers!

Confetti Sensory Tablets for Little Explorers

Join the Little Explorers Wednesday, October 8 at 10:15 am  and enjoy the fun of a gel-filled confetti sensory tablet. This program is for children ages 0 - 5 years old and their caregivers. Sorry we cannot accommodate Daycare groups for this program.

Hispanic Heritage Month Fridge Magnet Craft

Hey kids, come celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with us and create a mini-sombrero magnet to put on your refrigerator. The fun begins Wednesday, October 1 at 3:15 pm. All materials are provided and funded by the Friends of La Porte Library.

Happy Birthday La Porte Community Library !!

The Storytime children made birthday cakes to decorate and celebrate 13 years of service at the La Porte Community Library. We opened the new library to the public on September 20, 2001. The bulletin board also wishes a happy birthday to our zany Children's Librarian Mr. D. May we have many more years of great library times here in La Porte!

Gulf Coast Reads Book Discussion: A book discussion about the Gulf Coast Reads selection Remember Ben Clayton: A Novel by Stephen Harrigan, Wednesday, October 8, 10:30 am – 11:30 am. Registration not required. 

Gulf Coast Reads Program: Lisa Struthers, Library Director at the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Library of the San Jacinto Museum of History, will give a program about the Texas History Resources available at the Museum Library.  Pictures of artifacts at the museum that relate to the themes in Remember Ben Clayton will be highlightedThe program will be held on Monday, October 13, 7 pm – 8 pm. Registration not required. 

Also, the Adult non-fiction book display for September highlights a Sneak Preview of materials related to the themes in Remember Ben Clayton: World War I, Creativity, Women's Roles in the 20th Century, Native Americans, Parent/Child Relationships, etc.
