Preschool StoryTime

Clipart of Adult with Preschool Children Copyright © 2013 Jupiterimages CorporationThe new school year is a great time to get Preschool children started with StoryTime.  Preschool StoryTime is recommended for children 3 – 6 years old and features age appropriate stories, skits, action-rhymes and occasional crafts. Every Tuesday starting at 10:15 am. (We are sorry but we cannot accommodate Daycare groups for this program.) There are no reservations needed and first-timers are welcome on any Tuesday; please call 281-471-4022 if more information is desired.

Computer Basics Class Coming in September

On Wednesday September 11 at 10:30 am, we will be offering a new Computer Basics class here at La Porte Community Library. This will be a two hour class on how to get started with computers. Enrollment is limited so come in or call 281-471-4022 to register.

Gulf Coast Reads Selection 2013

Jacket Cover for The Dog Stars: A Novel by Peter HellerThe Dog Stars by Peter Heller is the selection for the Gulf Coast Reads program this year. Gulf Coast Reads is an initiative to encourage readers on the upper Gulf Coast of Texas to read and discuss the same book.

We will have two programs at La Porte Community Library in October to support Gulf Coast Reads. The first program will be a book discussion of Dog Stars on Wednesday, October 9, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The second program will be a showing of a movie from the dystopian genre [title to be announced] on Wednesday, October 16, at 4 p.m. Popcorn and refreshments will be served.

The Dog Stars is available for checkout in several formats at Harris County Public Library: regular print, large print, compact disc, eBook, and eAudio. Check the title out, read or listen to it, and join the discussion in October!
