Book Discussion- ‘The Invention of Wings: A Novel’ by Sue Monk Kidd. Monday, September 18, 6:30 pm-7:30 pm. The novel begins on Sarah's eleventh birthday, when she is given ownership over Handful, who is to be her handmaid. The Invention of Wings follows the next thirty-five years of their lives. Inspired in part by the historical figure of Sarah Grimke (a feminist, suffragist and, importantly, an abolitionist), Kidd allows herself to go beyond the record to flesh out the inner lives of all the characters, both real and imagined. Cover Art for Leaving Time by Jodi PicoultJoin us on Monday, August 21 at 6:30 pm for a discussion of Leaving Time: A Novel by Jodi Picoult. Available in Regular Print, Large Print, Audiobook on CD, eBook, and eAudio.

Alice Metcalf was a devoted mother, loving wife, and an accomplished scientist who studied grief among elephants. Yet it has been a decade since she disappeared under mysterious circumstances, leaving behind her small daughter, husband, and the animals to which she devoted her life. All signs point to abandonment . . . or worse. Still Jenna--now thirteen years old and truly orphaned by a father maddened by grief--steadfastly refuses to believe in her mother's desertion. Deeply moving and suspenseful, Leaving Time is a radiant exploration of the enduring love between mothers and daughters. Free. Ages 18+. No registration required. Call 281-471-4022 to reserve a copy.
