Countdown to the End of Tax Season!

April has arrived and the end of tax season is looming!  Have you turned in your tax returns yet?  Don't worry, Maud Marks Library and AARP have you covered.  You still have 5 chances  to get your taxes done.  AARP will be here today, Friday, April 8, Monday, April 11, Friday, April 15, AND Monday, April 18.  All times are 10 AM- 2 PM.  

Don't wait until the last minute, get yours filed today!

Teen Volunteers

Calling all High School Teens! Are you needing volunteer hours this school year? The Maud Marks Library is currently accepting volunteer applications.

Volunteers must be in high school and be able to commit to 2 hours a week. Come by the library to fill out and turn in an application. The next Teen Volunteer Orientation is on Thursday, April 7, at 4:30 PM.

All new volunteers are required to attend an orientation before they can begin volunteering.

Book Sale Saturday

Books, DVDs, and CDs are on sale at bargain prices this Saturday, April 2nd from 10am till 4pm. Many items are in mint condition and there is a wide variety – everything from children’s books to college textbooks, cookbooks, fiction, romance, music and more. The Friends of Maud Marks Library are have all their inventory on display and for sale.  This is a great way to improve your personal library, pick up some great gifts and support the library.  Proceeds from the sale support the library with its collections and programs such as summer reading program, Saturday computer classes, the Seniors Timeless Travelers trips, our ESL and craft programs. Library “Bluebonnets” in the “Lone Star” State

      Some students in Texas are required to read the Texas Bluebonnet Award books or the Texas Lone Star books. If you don’t have the list and need to place a request on these books, there is a quick way to access the lists through our catalog. Go to www.hcpl.net and in the search box type “2016-17 Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List” (in quotes) or “2016 Texas Lone Star Reading List” (in quotes), or click on the links in this blog. You can place a hold on them by signing in with your card number and pin number.

Kaleidoscopes

This week we will explore light and refraction in Wednesday Wonders by making kaleidoscopes. The program is designed for children ages 6-10. Free tickets are available at the information desk 15 minutes before the start time of 4:45 pm. Space is limited.
