It's Computer-Time

Have you ever wondered how to research your family ancestry? What about creating a PowerPoint presentation for your daughter’s bridal shower? Maybe you just need to know how to access the Internet? Or, download a book to your computer or listening device.  Classes for each of these are scheduled this month. Registration is required. Go to our Events Calendar and sign up!

New Book Clubs

The summer is over so it is time to "get down to business" and join one of Maud Marks three book clubs starting this month!  Next week we will be hosting an evening book club.

Starting Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 PM the club will be reading Eleanor of Aquitaine: A Life by Alison Weir. Eleanor was the Mother of Richard the Lionheart and King John of England.  She was queen of both England and France through two marriages.   A fascinating woman and a fascinating read.

Thursday, Sept. 12 at 1 PM the club will be reading The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom. This book attempts to discover what people would change if they could control time.  It's about time. ha ha!

Common Sense Media

I recently came across this website that I thought was very helpful in finding good apps, movies and websites for families with children. Here is their website and mission statement. You may want to check it out.

"Common Sense Media is dedicated to improving the lives of kids and families by providing the trustworthy information, education, and independent voice they need to thrive in a world of media and technology.
We exist because our nation's children spend more time with media and digital activities than they do with their families or in school, which profoundly impacts their social, emotional, and physical development . As a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization, we provide trustworthy information and tools, as well as an independent forum, so that families can have a choice and a voice about the media they consume."

Teen Volunteers Needed at Maud Marks Library!

Are you a high school student interested in helping at the Maud Marks Library a couple of hours per week?  We still have spaces available for new volunteers for the fall semester and our next orientation is this Wednesday, September 4 at 4 pm.  Just fill out an application and return it early or bring it with you.  Orientation is mandatory for new volunteers but if you can’t come on Wednesday our next orientation is Monday, September 23 at 7 pm.  Thanks for your help!

School Starts Soon!

School starts on Monday, are you ready?  Here at the Maud Marks Library we have all kinds of ways to help you get ready for school.  Come by to pick up that classic book you have to read for your English class.  Need an idea for a science experiment?  We've got those too!

We can even help you when the library doors are closed.  Just check out our many databases.  We have access to magazine and journal articles, opposing viewpoint articles, literary criticism, and encyclopedias right from the comfort of your own home.
