Teen Programs at Maud Marks

Thanks to everyone who came out last week for the Maud Marks Zombie Prom!  We had lots of fun trying out different crafts, eating graveyard cake, and taking photos.

Our next teen summer program is decoupage on July 11 at 3pm.  We’ll decorate boxes and all materials are provided. See you there!

We Had Our Cake!

Congratulations to all the wonderful ladies that participated in the cake decorating class last week.  We all had a great time and some beautifully decorated cupcakes were the result.  Some of you asked me for the frosting recipe that I used in the class.  I'm glad to share it with you.  This is a good recipe to crumb coat and frost your cake. Remember to always sift your powdered sugar at least once before you mix it with the other ingredients.

Karen's Cake Frosting

1/2 cup + 2 TB shortening (I use Crisco), 2TB butter, 1/3 cup milk (whole milk will make your frosting creamier), 4 cups powdered sugar. 1 tsp vanilla flavoring, 1/2 tsp almond flavoring, 1/4 tsp lemon flavoring. You can tweak the flavorings to get the flavor you like. I also use 1 TB meringue powder to give the frosting more crust.

Aloha Summer!

It's summer!  What are your travel plans for these lazy months?  What about a (virtual) trip to Hawaii?  Join us next Tuesday night at 7 PM as Dora Morton takes us all around paradise.  Discover Hawaiian Island Volcanoes National Park, the vibrant shores of Waikiki Beach, the dramatic cliffs of the Napali Coast on Kauai, and more! We can't wait to find out all these Pacific islands have to offer and see the incredible beauty from right here in our air conditioned library.  Seating for this and most programs is limited, so click here to register for this or other programs at the library.

A True Jurassic Experience

Elementary age kids are going to love our Afternoon Adventures every Monday during the summer reading program. This Monday, June 17  will excite dinosaur fans with Walt Whittington's DINOSAURS ROCK. It's a  fascinating dinosaur, fossil and mineral adventure your child will talk about for a long time.

The program is free but seating is limited. Kids will need to have their hand stamped  a half hour before the show. There will be a show at 1:30 pm and 3 pm.

The Summer Reading Program is Here!

You may have a couple of days of school left but our annual Summer Reading Program has begun!  Go ahead and sign up to begin logging your titles.  Here at the Maud Marks Branch we have lots of programs for the whole family, including a movie this Friday at 1:15 pm where you can see how genius billionaire Tony Stark created his superhero alter-ego.  We’ll also have free popcorn while it lasts!
