Free Family Vacation

lion danceI picture a tropical island or bustling oriental town. It  looks like there is some kind of event being planned.   Everyone is excited, anticipating the start of the festivities.  The children can't wait to make a Chinese yo-yo, origami doll or flower lei. Every mouth is watering at the smell of all the different foods being prepared for the event. People have gathered from many Asian countries and Pacific islands to share their culture through cooking and calligraphy demonstrations, crafts, and even a Vietnamese Lion Dance! There is lots of music, laughter, and fun. The whole family is having a great time.  Wait!

"Smart" App for "Smart" phone

Did you know that Harris County Public Library has a new App, free at iTunes and the Android Market? It allows you to do most of what you can do on our HCPL web site, like renew, place requests, access the events calendar, and pay your fines. It’s amazing. I was at home when my daughter texted me and asked me to check at the library for a book for her. I already had the phone in my hand so I went to the HCPL Mobile App and looked the book up in the catalog, placed a request on it for her, and then picked it up at the library in just two days. Now that’s service… and smart! Check out the new app... you'll be glad you did!

New Computer Lab

The after school hours can be very busy at the library and it's a challenge to find a quiet place to work on the computer. Well, that has changed. We can now offer you a space in our new computer lab equipped with 8 brand new computers and updated with Windows 7.

We will be using the lab for our computer classes and soon have Rosetta Stone installed for our ESL classes!
