Project Peep Day 19 at North Channel

Project Peep Day 19 and we are still monitoring the eggs closely and anxiously awaiting Wednesday, Egg Hatching Day 21.
10 families were chosen as Foster Chick Families and will take home 2 chicks each for two weeks. We have put together the cages which includes a Scientific Journal for the families to take notes and journal the activities of their chicks.
On Saturday, March 25 we will reunite the chicks at a Foster Chick Reunion Party where you can drop by and wish the chicks good luck as they make their way back to Blue Star Ranch.

Project Peep is a unique animal science program brought to Harris County Libraries through a grant provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).

Deussen Park Outreach: Smart Animal Series

We sure learned a lot last Tuesday at the second program in  the Smart Animal series presented by Deussen Park's Traveling Naturalist...Animals we were able to see and/or touch included a walking stick, a scorpion, a chameleon, a hog-nose snake and a rat too! Some of the animals we learned about were gorillas, who have the ability to learn sign language, and the squirrel who has a curious behavior of dragging snake skins around his home for scent repellant properties to ward off predators. The next program in the series will be  "Animal Arguments" on Wednesday, March 14 at 1:30 pm during Spring Break.  "Animal Engineers" will be the last visit on Tuesday, April 18 at 1:30 pm. These events are recommended for ages 3 - 12 years.
