Hey Gamers!

Join us on Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at the Northwest Branch Library for our Game Day Frenzy for kids and teens ages 10-17! We will have up to 2 consoles for us to play with. Also, if you own a console in the Nintendo 3DS family, bring it along and play alongside other people. It’s a great opportunity to collect Street Passes!  If you have any questions, call us at 281-890-2665. Hope to see you there!

Sometimes an Encouraging Tail Wag Is All a Reluctant Reader Needs

Cayenne and friendHCPL and Northwest Branch Library are pleased to announce a new program with Tender Loving K-9s Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) designed to help reluctant readers gain confidence in their abilities. The idea behind R.E.A.D. is simple. When it comes to unconditional acceptance and sincere enthusiasm, dogs are a breed apart, so what better listener for a child who may be struggling with reading than a friendly pooch? Starting on November 26, and continuing every third Tuesday each month, registered therapy dog, Cayenne, and her human, Kristin Fitzgerald, will visit Northwest Branch Library. Time slots are limited; call 281-890-2665 or stop by the circulation desk on your next visit to reserve a session.

In addition to Northwest Branch’s new program, young readers have other opportunities:
• Longtime R.E.A.D. buddies from Montgomery County Pet Partners—Sheba, Bailey, Nick & Nora—will make their monthly visit to LSC – Tomball Community Library on Tuesday, November 26, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m.
Katy Branch Library’s Holiday Kick-off Party on December 7, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. will not only feature a visit from Santa, but one from a reader’s best-friend, as well.

Catching Fire Life Sized Board Game

Flames

Are you a Hunger Games fan? Join us at the Northwest Branch Library as we play a life-sized board game, based on Suzanne Collins' book Catching Fire, book 2 of the Hunger Games trilogy on October 23 at 3:00 pm. Play your way across the room by answering trivia questions to earn character cards. The first to collect the set wins, but beware of the black spaces, for almost certain death awaits those who land there! For more information call 281-890-2665.
