Library Cards Are Not Just For Adults!

Do you know that parents can request a library card for their child at any age?

“The single most significant factor influencing a child’s early educational success is an introduction to books and being read to at home prior to beginning school.” - The Report of the National Commission on Reading

Getting a library card is easy and the first card is free!

Basic Math Concepts

Many children's songs and fingerplays help reinforce basic math concepts. Whenever possible, I incorporate objects that the children can count or other  visual images such as graphs. This not only makes the information easier for children to understand but also allows me to introduce vocabulary.

At home, parents can help their children by creating activities and games to talk about math. Take children on a nature walk and allowing them to collect items such as, small stones, sea shells or leaves.

The Bluebonnets Have Arrived!

To say that the Texas Bluebonnet books are popular would truly be an understatement.  So, I wanted to make sure everyone is aware that the 2012 - 2013 Bluebonnet Books have arrived at all HCPL locations. Happy reading!
