Desperately Seeking Adult Paperbacks!

Again, we here at Octavia Fields would like to thank you for your generosity, and encourage you  to donate all those "beach reads" you're finished with to us! All donated books are sold at our used book sales, and the proceeds help support those children's programs you've come to know and love! So, help us continue to have quality programs for your kids, send us your used books!

SUMMER READING KICKS OFF WITH A BANG

Abubakr African Drummming and Story Telling helped to kick-off the 2010 Summer Reading Program here at Octaviia Fields Library.  Abubakr Kouyate is a djembe master performer and teacher.  During the program, Abubakr taught the children authentic West African rhythms.  Then, he asked for volunteers to come try their hand at playing the West African djembe drums.  The children and parents enjoyed  participating and playing their own rhythms on the drums.

Support the Summer Reading Program!

Hey! Don't know what to do with all those paperbacks you've already read? We are really in need of used paperback adult fictions books for our book sale. Remember, all proceeds from the Friends of the Library Booksale goes towards our Summer Reading program here at the library. You get a chance to clean out that corner, and our library kids get quality summer reading programs! It's a win-win situation!  You can also request a receipt for charitiable contributions!

For The Children/Para Los Ninos

"Your life + your time = MATH"

Our daily lives are filled with tasks that require math skills.  Our next workshop for parents and children will be called "Math at Home".  It will be held in the meeting room during pre-school story time, on Tuesday May 11th, at 10:30 am.  We will be having fun games with addition, creating patterns, and measuring.  Parents don't forget to fill out your survey for a free ticket to admit 4 guests to the Children's Museum of Houston.  So please come, and join the fun!

Tuesday Movie

Don't forget our Tuesday Movie is coming up!!  I think the girls are going to like this one better then the boys, the theme is pink, with some frog green thrown in!  Come on down for a good time!!  We'll be serving popcorn and watching on the big screen on Tuesday April 27, 2010 at 4:30 pm, in the meeting room!
