Blue Bonnet Book Club

Billie Bailey, our children's librarian, would like to start a Blue Bonnet Reading Club for home schooled children from 3rd grade to 6th grade.   Starting sometime in September, it will be an opportunity for home schooled children to meet and discuss award winning novels with their peers.  Please contact Ms Billie via email at bbailey@hcpl.netSmile

Read It and Eat it Book Club!

We'll be having our monthly Read It And Eat It  book club on Saturday August 29, 2009 at 10:30 am.  The book we will be discussing will be Lucia, Lucia .  Copies are available at the Circulation Desk, including the book on cd.  We'll also be sampling Outrageous Brownies, and the recipe will be available so that you can enjoy them at home, too!!

Winnie Laurene Ragsdale Scholarship

Samantha Bennett, a 2009 Humble High School graduate is the second annual recipient of the Winnie Laurene Ragsdale scholarship, named in honor of the first librarian of the Humble City Library. Mrs Ragsdale retired  and named the current library Octavia Fields library. Check out the story in this weeks Humble Observer.

Give Us Your Used Books!!

Have you been cleaning? Want to know what to do with that pile of books you've already read? Don't take them to the garbage, bring them to us!! We are desperately in need of used adult paperback books for our book sale coming up the last weekend of August.  Keep in mind, all proceeds from our community book sales are used for the children's programming for the library. And what better way to recycle then to bring them to us!!!  (pssst-- donations are also tax deductible!!)

Free Immunizations!

I just read in the local newspaper that there will be a mobile immunization van in the parking lot of Park Lake Elementary School on August 25, from 10 am to 2 pm.  All students in the Humble School District are eligible for free vaccines.  Make sure you bring their shot records and register before 1:45 pm!!!  Even if you think your kids are up to date, you might want to check, because Texas Legislature has now mandated new requirements for the coming school year.
