2x2 BOOKS!

Each year, the 2x2 commitee for the Texas Library Association (TLA) is tasked with reading well over 500 children's books.  From these 500 + books, they choose 20 that they consider to be the best of the bunch for children ages 2 months to 2 years - hence 2x2.  The 20 chosen are comprised of picture books, non-fiction, Spanish and this year even a graphic novel is on the list.  In the Children's Area here at Tomball, this special collection of books are grouped and shelved after the Early Readers under the large bulletin board.. Previous years books are shelved in this area as well and all the books are designated by a spine label with the year they were named to the list.  On the TLA website you can find a complete list of this years books, previous years list, resources and activities to work on with your child.  Let us know what you think of these special books the next time you are in the Library! Happy Reading!

Celebrate Earth Day and Space!

Earth Day and Space - 2 awesome and informative displays await you on your next visit to the Library!  On the first round shelf area you will find books and information on Space, planets and NASA's latest projects.  In the alcove area directly after that, you will find the Earth Day display.  Earth day is an annual initiative which began in 1970 to bring awareness and demonstrate support for environmental protection. Today, it is recognized with events held worldwide in over 193 countries!  Learn about it, get information on ways you can protect the Earth and check out some books.

As part of a committment by the staff of the library to a "year of giving", each month a worthy cause is chosen to contribute to.  This month, and in conjunction with Earth Day, the library has chosen the Tomball Community Center.  We are asking for donations of clean and dry plastic grocery bags which will be woven into sleeping mats for the homeless.  A large green box is located near the base of the display for the collection of these bags.  Thank you in advance for helping us to recycle and give back to our community!
