A Tribute to Rhonda Brewer

Today we send a special shout out to a woman who has made a remarkable and lasting contribution to LSC-Tomball Community Library and to our library community. Since 2005, when the library moved to our present location, Rhonda Brewer has hosted or supported the Sit ‘n’ Stitch Club that has met, sometimes once, sometimes twice a week in the library. In 2007 she started the Postcard Club that also continues meeting once a month.

For several years Rhonda was the Director of a local Family History Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. An avid and expert genealogist herself, Rhonda shared her skills by conducting a series of free genealogy searching courses here in the library. Anyone who has taken her Genealogy 101 or Genealogy 201 courses will attest to her skill as a teacher and her passion for the subject.

In July of this year, Rhonda and her husband Ron lent themselves out to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints headquarters in Salt Lake City, where they took up posts in the Natural Resources Management department, managing the mineral rights of Church properties in the U.S. and Canada.

Last week Rhonda and Ron returned to Houston, but only to pack up their house and arrange for its sale. They are moving permanently to Salt Lake City. As we lose you, Rhonda, may we thank you again for being one of the pillars of this library. We wish you and Ron every success and happiness in your years ahead in Salt Lake City. Farewell, good friend.

We Close Friday at Noon for Christmas

We’re closing earlier than usual this year to accommodate some system repairs at the college. You’ll have to pick up your holiday books and movies by 12:00 noon this Friday, December 21st or wait until Wednesday, December 26th at 8:00 a.m. when we re-open. If you receive an electronic reading or listening device as a gift, we will be available when we re-open to help you learn how to download library books onto it!  Meantime, our very best wishes for a joyous and happy Dongzhi, Winter Solstice, Yule, Christmas, or Kwaanza; whatever you celebrate may it be festive and fun!

Enjoy the Postcard Club

Did you know that a Postcard Club meets here at the library?
They meet every 3rd Saturday at 3:00 pm at the Tomball Library to socialize, talk about their postcard collections, and trade postcards. Then they discuss new and old business and listen to a postcard related presentation. There are no dues; all activities are free, and everyone is welcome.
Their collections are amazing and span decades of history and styles.
They will be meeting this Saturday, December 15th at 3:00 pm, in Room 212--the second floor Conference Room. Come, join in, and share your collection with the group.

Storytime is Truly an Art Form!

Anyone can “read” a story...but planning and presenting a story time is truly an art form!  Your Tomball Children’s staff carefully selects themes and searches for books, songs, fingerplays, activities and crafts that are age appropriate for the child in attendance.  As always, the number one goal for a storyteller is for your child to have a wonderful experience and leave with a big smile on their face!

Please access our weekly storytime calendar and other children's programs and events!

And, every Tuesday at 6:30 pm we will offer a Family Storytime for children ages 3-6.  Please note this program does not begin until January 22, 2013For information about any of our programs, call 832-559-4235.
