Voters Guide has arrived

The League of Women Voters of Houston's Voters Guide has arrived. Several of you have been asking for it. You'll find copies on the desk in the middle of the round wall in front of the stairs on the first floor.

This edition contains information about the Tuesday, May 29, 2012 Primary election.

Betty Engdorf Paintings in Room L-129

Betty Engdorf, a local artist who has just taken on being vice-president of the Tomball Art League, is the featured artist in our meeting room exhibition hall this month. Betty's landscapes document favorite local scenes and European travels. She is also showing paintings of flowers and birds, including her favorite hummingbirds. Come by and enjoy Engdorf's paintings through the month of May.

Tomball Branch Ends a Chapter

Many of you will remember when the Tomball branch of Harris County Public Library (HCPL) joined with Lone Star College Tomball's academic library and opened a combined library building in 2005. At that time, Wendy Schneider, who had been a branch librarian at the Fairbanks and Kingwood branches, became the library's co-director. Schneider has served the public library since then, liaising with the people of Tomball through membership in the Chamber of Commerce, outreach to schools, community groups, and retirement centers, and through ever-expanding library services and programs.

On Thursday, April 26th, Schneider retired, ending a seven year relationship with Tomball branch and a nineteen year career with HCPL.

You can use our Drive Through

Not everyone knows that we have a drive through window on the west side of the library building. To get to it, drive into the Lone Star College south entrance, turn right to turn into the library building, and come all the way down the little hill to the fountain. Turn left as if you are going into the Faculty and Staff parking lot and follow the signs for the Book Drop, taking the first right.

Last Call to get your taxes done

As we roll inexorably up to April 15th this Sunday, those of us with tax forms yet to complete are counting down the days. If you qualify for an extension and need to file an extension form (Form 4868) the library has a few copies left.
AARP Tax Aide will be in the library Saturday, April 14 and Monday, April 16 and then they roll away their computers and take a well-deserved rest. On behalf of all our customers who rely on the help of the AARP Tax Aide program to complete their income tax submission, we want to thank the faithful tax team who come in three times a week every year to help our customers.
