“Grab your Hat and Read with the Cat"

Saturday, March 2nd is Read Across America day!  In 1997, the National Education Association (NEA) urged for a special day to celebrate the joy of literature and reading throughout the United States, particularly for children and young adults.  So popular was this idea that it became a nationwide observance held every year on the birthday of Children’s author, Theodore Geissel, best known around the world as Dr. Seuss! Most schools and public libraries will celebrate this event all week long with books, games and activities.  Remember, "You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child." ~ Dr. Seuss

Publication 17 is here!

The long-awaited tax information booklet, Publication 17, has come in! You'll find it on the back side of  one of the Tax Forms pyramids in the main hallway in front of the first floor reference desk.

Spring Cleaning = Book Donations

Spring is just around the corner and with it, spring cleaning! If you clear off some space on your book or media shelves this spring, keep the library in mind for donations. Donations of new and gently-used items are sold in our Friends of the Library Bookstore, located near the front entrance of the library. All proceeds are used to support the library.

The Friends of the Library will gladly accept the following materials:

  • - Gently-used hardcover and paperback books
  • - VHS tapes, CDs, DVDs and audio books in good and working condition
  • - New magazines of general interest, such as National Geographic, Smithsonian, Texas Monthly, cooking or decorating magazines, and select children’s magazines

While we appreciate your generosity and your willingness to support the library, we are unable to accept the following materials:

  • - Any items that are moldy, dirty, water-stained, without covers or that have torn pages
  • - Encyclopedias
  • - Medical books or textbooks that are more than ten years old
  • - Back issues of magazines about current events, fashion, finance, sports or technology

Thank you for your donations and your continued support of the library!

Marketing to the Hispanic Community

LSC-Tomball Community Library and the Lone Star College Small Business Development Center proudly begin a third season of Business Success Seminars Friday, March 1st with Maria Tapias, Group Account Director with Lopez Negrete Communications. Tapias will light up the new season with a seminar about Marketing to the Hispanic Community.

Lopez Negrete Communications is an independent, Hispanic owned and operated full service agency specializing in Hispanic marketing. As Tapias remarks, the Hispanic community is "...a world all its own, with different textures and tastes, rhythms and hues."

This year's Business Success seminars are especially timed to begin right after each monthly Chamber of Commerce meeting, a meeting that takes place the first Friday of the month in the Beckendorf Center in the East Building of LSC-Tomball. The seminars will happen just around the corner in Room E178. There is no registration and no registration fee for the seminars, and everyone is welcome. That's 2:15 p.m., Friday, March 1st.
