An Invitation: To Read outside [your personal] box!

Summer is almost upon us and so are our summer reading programs. We, in the Adult department will be challenging our readers to s-t-r-e-t-c-h yourselves with your summer reading this year. Whatever your favorite kinds of books, be they Inspirational, Thrillers, Science Fiction, or Mysteries, we're encouraging you to try something else! We'll be putting up bookmarks with some ideas for you--look for them in the Fiction department and upstairs in Non-Fiction.

And remember that we're happy to request anything you don't see on the shelf, either from another branch or via interlibrary loan from across the country.

THE ART OF STORYTIME!

Anyone can “read” a story...but planning and presenting a story time is truly an art form!  Your Tomball children’s staff carefully selects themes and searches for books, songs, fingerplays and crafts that are age appropriate for the child in attendance.  As always, the number one goal for a storyteller is for your child to have a wonderful experience and leave with a big smile on their face!   For a complete schedule of weekly story times please access theTomball branch calendar or call 832-559-4235.  We look forward to seeing you and your child at story time!

Please: No Offensive Language!

“Does this book contain bad language?” is a frequently asked question at our Fiction desk. Many of our customers prefer not to read stories salted with vulgarities or swear words.

This was a difficult question for us to answer unless we ourselves had read the book and had remembered that particular feature of its content. Recently, however, one of our librarians discovered that the Amazon.com online catalog has every word of its books indexed so that they can be searched for offending words.

Read on to learn how you use it.
