AARP Tax Aide is about to begin again, starting February 1st! Every year qualified agents from the American Association of Retired Persons volunteer at our libraries to complete the tax returns of elderly and low income earners. They work in our meeting room, Room L-129, Mondays (noon to 4 pm), Wednesdays (10 am to 2 pm), and Saturdays (11 am to 3 pm) and provide confidential assistance to as many people as they can accommodate.
If you wish to receive this tax return assistance, please bring with you as much of the following as applies to your situation:
-Valid identification with current address for yourself and your dependents
-Social Security cards for yourself and your dependents
-Your wage, salary, income statements (W-2 and/or 1099)
-Last year’s income tax return statement
-If you are a homeowner, the amount of property tax you paid in 2014
-If you bought a new vehicle in 2014, the amount of sales tax you paid
-Documentation for deductible expenses (mortgage interest, real estate taxes paid, medical expenses, charitable donations, mileage for volunteer work)
-Documentation for items that qualify for tax credit (child care, post-secondary education, home purchase contracts & closing statement for homes purchased in the past year)
Last tip: The Tax Aide people receive customers on a first-come, first-served basis only. So come early to get your name on the list!
