Save the Date! World Autism Awareness Day

The month of April is Autism Awareness month. We would like to invite you to join the staff at LSC Tomball Community Library on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 as we "Light it up Blue" in honor of World Autism Awareness Day. The staff will be wearing blue that day. Why not join us and wear blue too?

We welcome your support.

Additionally, patrons who are wearing blue on  April 2 will receive one of our handcrafted puzzle pieces while supplies last.

Wanted: Teen Volunteers!

Are you a teen, at least 14 years old and looking for something fun to do this Summer?  If you are, then consider applying to be a teen volunteer!  The Children’s area of the Library is looking for teens to assist with story times, programs, craft projects, shelving and other Library tasks during our busy Summer Reading program.  Teens chosen for this program commit to work a regular schedule of at least 2 hours each week.  Many National Honor Society chapters as well as college and job applications require volunteer experience, so, stop by the Children’s reference desk today and fill out your application!  Call 832-559-4235 for more info.  *must be 14 years old at the time of submitting application.

Street Art

Timed to coincide with the Lascaux exhibit at Houston's Museum of Natural Science, we've created a book display called Street Art. Featured are books from prehistoric times--the Lascaux cave paintings, Texas petroglyphs, Egyptian, Aegean, and African tomb, wall, and cave art--right up to modern street murals, graffiti, and even--yes--yarn bombing.

But even more fun is the wall itself. We've covered the wall surrounding the display in paper and for the last week our customers have been contributing their own 'street' art. Come and add your own!

Celebrate Spring and Eric Carle!

Celebrate the first day of Spring on Thursday, March 20th, and the 45th Anniversary of the children's book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"!  Written in 1969 by Eric Carle, this all time favorite story follows the hungry caterpillar as it grows from egg to cocoon to a beautiful butterly!
