Autism Awareness Month

The month of April is Autism Awareness month.  This nationwide effort promotes awareness, inclusion and self-determination for all with ASD, and also strives to assure that each person is provided with every opportunity to achieve their highest possible quality of life. The Library joins in this awareness and shows their support by “lighting up blue” the overhead lighting of the first floor reference area of the library.  And, on Saturday, April 25th at 11:00 in room L129,  a Sensory Sensitive Film will be shown – the sound will be lowered, the lights left up and all in attendance are invited to bring snacks, move about and enjoy this FREE, fun event with friends and family!  Please call the library for the title of this G-rated Disney movie at 832-559-4200.

Artist's Date coming up April 23rd

A couple of times a year we invite adult artists to the library to paint together, enjoy each other's company, and watch an artist demonstration. Imagine a lovely spring morning; you are standing at your easel or sitting at a table in our sunny front room among other artists. Warm conversation gradually fades into an embracing communal silence as each artist happily focuses on his or her work. Outside, the college’s dominant male crow struts up to the window and engages in a percussive battle with his reflection in the glass. The college caterer silently slips in with coffee, water, and dessert. As people get hungry, they put down their implements, open their lunches, and conversation picks up again. After lunch, an artist, this time, retired architect Bill Epps, Jr., gives a relaxed demonstration of his watercolor painting technique. Is this for you?

Then mark your calendar for Thursday, April 23rd, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. See you then!
