Teddy Bear Picnic Day

July 10th is Teddy Bear Picnic Day!

Do you know how Teddy Bear came to be called “Teddy”?  During the 1900s, President Theodore Roosevelt went hunting in Mississippi.  While hunting, he refused to shoot a little bear and the Washington Post made a cartoon about that event.  Toy store owners wrote a letter to the president and asked if they could make a bear and call him “Teddy” after Theodore Roosevelt.  He agreed and the toy store made many children’s favorite Teddy Bears.
