Special Display of Copper Mandalas from Theiss Elementary 5th grade

The five 5th grade classes from Theiss Elementary have created artistic Copper Mandalas. The class lesson on the history of the Statue of Liberty included how the statue was made and the patination process of copper.

The students used 100% copper to create these mandalas. In doing so the learned the Repoussé process which involves manipulating the shape of metal. To do this, they needed to understand relief sculpture, as well as convex and concave shapes.

Birthday Special

Do you know what happened on March 2nd, 1904? A great storyteller was born who explained to us that it’s okay to be different. Dr. Seuss gave us so many wonderful friends and taught us some very valuable life lessons. To honor such a man, his birthday has been marked as National Read Across America Day. This year March 2nd falls on a Sunday so it will be celebrated on March 3rd.

Knowledge Exchange - let's knit or crochet!

Come and knit or crochet with friends at the library on Fridays from 2:30-4:30.

We make lap blankets for Vets at the V.A. and Chemo Caps for patients at M.D. Anderson. We also make 8" squares to be sent overseas for children with AIDS. The mothers sew the squares together to make blankets.

This Friday is the last Friday of the month and that is when we celebrate the birthdays of the month. Please bring a small snack to share.

You can also work on your own project.
