Join us for another Japanese Sword Demonstration!

Join us this coming Saturday (5/23/15) in celebrating Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month with our yearly Japanese sword demonstration. The art of drawing the Japanese sword, known as Iaido or Iaijutsu, was a fundamental part of the martial training for the feudal Japanese warrior (Samurai). Come meet modern practitioners of the art, and see it performed! It starts at 1pm, in the meeting room.

Help a Neighbor to a Better Life. Become an ESL Tutor!

Most of us take for granted that we can speak and be understood. That is a luxury many of your neighbors don't have. But with only a few hours a week and a willingness to help, you can change that: Become an ESL tutor at HCPL.

Our next free training session is Tuesday, May 26. 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Evelyn Meador Branch Library.
No teaching experience is necessary.
For more information or to register for any of our upcoming training classes, call 713-749-9000 or email alisha.hall@hcpl.net

Another great Japanese history display at Evelyn Meador!

Stop by Evelyn Meador in May to see this year's new Japanese history display, in celebration of Asian Pacific Heritage Month. It's loaded with a slew of Japanese cultural items, Samurai gear, and books about Japan's martial, feudal, and post feudal history.
