Hurricane Watch

Now that our Summer Reading Program is drawing to a close (come and get your prizes if you haven’t already), we at Evelyn Meador Branch Library are moving into a little bit of downtime until school starts. However, we still have a lot to offer the community that you should come in to see. With the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey coming up, and with hurricane season still in full swing, we want to help teach people how to deal with hurricanes. As such, on Tuesday, August 14, at 6:30 PM we have invited NOAA meteorologist Jeffry Evans, to come to the library and discuss some of these issues. With a lot of good information, like hurricane preparedness, a discussion on how much of an anomaly Hurricane Harvey was, and how weather watches work, this lecture is one that you are sure to want to attend.

Newly installed Little Library

Special guest author Betty Heverly writes:

You may have noticed the beautiful miniature library nestled between the flagpoles at Evelyn Meador Library. Sigourney Lee, Seabrook resident and proud Girl Scout, recently completed this project for her Girl Scout Silver Award.

The motto of the Little Free Library Program is “Take a Book. Share a Book”. Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. Don’t have time to stop at the library? Grab a book and leave one of your own. Spread the joy!

Congratulations, Sigourney! We look forward to sharing your wonderful project with the community.

Sherlock's Back On!

For those who missed your chance to attend on July 24, we'll have additional session's of the room on August 16, starting at 1:30. With room for ten people per timeslot and timeslots every hour until 6:30, make sure that you don't miss this fantastic program.

Register on our online calendar by choosing the time you want and putting in your information. If the timeslot is full, make sure you check other timeslots to see if there is another time you can still go.

This activity is for ages 10 and up.

It's "cool" at Evelyn Meador Library

Monday July 23rd maybe the hottest day of the summer for people here in Houston. Temperatures and heat indexes are expected to be in the triple digits the rest of this week. These dangerous Temperatures have led Harris County to designate the libraries in their system as cooling centers. So if you are sitting at home and sweating your butt off, come on down to the library to relax and cool down.

Have a FOMO? You Probably Should.

FOMO, as I’m sure you all know, is a Fear of Missing Out. It generally refers to the fear that people are going to do something fun without you and afflicts pretty much everyone at some point. If you’ve ever been worried about not being at a game, missing dinner, or have been stressed about what’s happening at home without you, you’ve had FOMO. So, let me tell you right now, if you don’t plan on going to the Evelyn Meador Branch Library this week, you are definitely MO’ing (Missing Out, if that’s not clear).
