Summer Book Sale at Evelyn Meador

russia

You don’t have to go all the way to Russia to find a good deal on books!  The Friends of Evelyn Meador are hosting a book sale right here is Seabrook.  Even better, sale items will include everything from paperbacks to coffee table books, children’s books, music and movies, and more. So, here’s your chance to take a hassle free vacation without leaving home. What a great way to kick-off the summer!

The sale will be held  on Saturday, June 9th, from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Meeting Room of the library, just across from the Book Store.

Candy Lei Craft at Evelyn Meador

Asian-Pacific Heritage Month is a great time to celebrate the many cultures of the East.  To celebrate at Evelyn Meador we decided to create candy leis, inspired by the traditional craft of the Hawaiian Islands.
A lei is, most simply, any series of objects strung together to be worn, usually as a necklace.  Traditionally, flowers of various types may be chosen, but, over the years, many other types of leis have been created using any number of interesting materials, such as shells, paper money and fabric.
Candy was our material of choice for the leis for a couple of reasons. Number one is the kids always like it! Number two is that candy is a bit easier to acquire than exotic flowers, and certainly more easily disposed of!
Here is a shot of the kids hard at work.

Evelyn Meador Iaido Event in the The Bay Area Observer!

The Evelyn Meador Library's Iaido demonstration, featuring performances by Emily Egan Sensei of Clear Lake Iaido and her outstanding students, and your's truly, Ash Welborn of Shin Shin Ryu Iaijutsu, was a great success! We were happy to learn that Rebecca Collins of the Bay Area Observer was in attendance, and featured us in the following week's edition. Egan Sensei and I are looking forward to next year's demonstration.

Local Photography Exhibit Reception
