Celebrating Mother's Day

This coming Sunday, May 8, is Mother's Day and I hope that you are planning to observe the day with a special celebration for your Mom.  To help you celebrate this special day, the library has a display of picture books featuring Moms that are appropriate for sharing with younger readers.  Please browse these titles on your next visit to the library and check out some of the books to read and share.  Happy Mother's Day and Happy Reading!

Sam Houston Folk Festival with Fun4Seniors

Sam Houston FestAge 50+? Come and see Sam Houston’s 15-acre homeplace in Huntsville transformed into a bustling frontier settlement of re-enactments, music, and crafts. Enjoy watching glass blowing, metal workers, and listening to stories told by actors portraying Sam & Margaret Houston and other local popular historical figures. The bus will leave the library parking lot at 9 am on Saturday, May 14, and return at 4 pm. The trip is $5, plus the cost of your own lunch at the festival. Call 281-893-3726 to register.

Reading About Bugs!

Some bugs you may like, some bugs you may not.  But whether yes or no, the fact that remains that bugs are everywhere.  If you want to learn more about different kinds of bugs, please browse one of our newest displays here at the library.  "Reading About Bugs" features books about bumblebees, butterflies, spiders, and many other types of bugs.  Take a look on your next visit to the library and check out some books and share what you learn with family and friends.  Happy Reading!

Another Way to Go Green!

In honor of Earth Day, you can save trees by buying used books! The Friends of the Library book sale is this Saturday, April 23, from 10 am - 3 pm. They will be selling items at the following prices:
Adult books $1,
Children’s books 10₵ - 50₵,
DVDs $1,
CDs $1,
VHS tapes 10₵,
And some other items priced as marked
All proceeds help provide funding for library programs and materials, so please come and spend lots of money!

Go green with great reads for Earth Day!  Celebrate Earth Day with a book about being green, or maybe just a book that's green. While you're here, you can visit the park next door, or maybe check out some books on gardening or tree planting, in preparation for Arbor Day, next week.
