The Bear Necessities

Children's picture book stories about bears seem to be ever popular reading and hard to resist.  So, it's time to get comfortable and cozy and read and share some bear stories.  To help you in selecting some stories, we have a display of picture books, "The Bear Necessities" for your browsing pleasure.  Please be sure and take a look at it on your next visit to the library.  If we don't have your favorite story (or stories), please ask us to interlibrary loan it for you.  Happy Reading!

Food Drive!

Food driveIn celebration of Gulf Coast Reads, the Fairbanks Library is sponsoring a food drive from October 10-20 to benefit the food pantry at Cypress Assistance Ministries.  The library will be accepting donations of canned foods, dry foods, infant diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, and paper towels.  Please drop off donations in the designated box inside the library, when the library is open.  Thank you for helping our community!

Today in history...

October 12, 1492 was the day that a sailor on the Pinta sighted land. It wasn't until 1792 that we have a record of the United States celebrating Columbus Day. The celebration was organized by the Society of St. Tammany, also known as the Columbian Order, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Columbus' landing.
