Evaluate Your Life Day

Evaluation

Today is Evaluate Your Life Day. Take the time to think about where life has taken you and where it is heading. Are you content? If not, think about what you would like to change and take steps toward reaching that goal.

Here are a few books that we have checked in to get you started:

October is Adopt-A-Shelter-Dog Month

Shelter Dogs

Animal shelters are filled with dogs in need of forever homes. If you or someone you know is thinking about adopting a furry family member, this month is the perfect time to visit a shelter. Happy Columbus Day!

Columbus Day

Columbus Day is observed in the United States every year on the second Monday of October. The holiday celebrates Christopher Columbus' arrival to the Americas on October 12, 1492. Lucky for all you book lovers, the library is open on Columbus Day!

Here are some fiction and non-fiction children's books about Christopher Columbus that we have checked in:

A Harvest of Books

It's that time of the year when the weather begins to turn cooler, leaves start to turn different colors, and we start to think about the various holidays to be celebrated from now to the end of the year.  To help you find good picture books about the changing season, we have created a new display of titles to check out and share with youngsters, "A Harvest of Books."  Our selection includes books about harvesting, the Fall season, and, of course, pumpkins!  Please browse the display on your next visit to the library and I bet you will find some books to take home.  If not, please ask us and we will find what you need.  Happy Harvest Reading!

Remember, We Have Cookbooks

Cookbook-CheapI just discovered that, among many others things, October is National Cookbook Month.  So, I thought it would be a good time to remind you that Harris County Public Library has thousands of cookbooks!  Not just cookbooks for fun desserts, we also have them for diabetes-friendly or gluten-free foods, main courses, foreign foods, vegetarian and vegan foods, and just about anything else you can imagine.  Tired of the same old stuff?  Stop by and see what we have!
