Friday is National Dog Day

National Dog Day

National Dog Day is August 26 and it falls on a Friday this year. Since its creation by author and pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige in 2004, over 100,000 dogs have been saved. National Dog Day is currently celebrated in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, and Spain.

According to www.zootoo.com, "This year, in a special tribute coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, National Dog Day will honor Search & Rescue, Police, Bomb Sniffing and Fire Dogs. The event's website offers a special benefit poster series for sale commemorating these 'silent heroes'."

Dinner & A Movie Recommendations

It's time to treat yourself to dinner and a movie...at home!  If you are like me, you watch more movies in DVD format than actually going out to the local theater.  Even watching movies at home, you can treat yourself to a nice dinner--home cooked or order in--and then settle back in a comfortable chair or on a sofa and watch a movie you have been wanting to see.  To help you make some movie selections as well as different types of food to have, we have created a new display of movies and recipe books--"Dinner & A Movie."  On your next visit to the library, please browse the display and select some movies and recipe books to take home.  Happy Reading and Happy Viewing!

Singing the Schoolhouse Blues @ Your Library

Well, it's almost that time of the year when summer vacation is over and classes for the Fall semester start at the local schools.  To help younger students make the transition from summertime activities to "reading, writing, and arithmetic" we have created the "Singing the Schoolhouse Blues" display of picture books about schools, teachers, and students.  Please browse the books in the display and you should find some fun stories to read before it's "back to school!"  Happy Reading!
