Food Drive!

Food driveIn celebration of Gulf Coast Reads, the Fairbanks Library is sponsoring a food drive from October 10-20 to benefit the food pantry at Cypress Assistance Ministries.  The library will be accepting donations of canned foods, dry foods, infant diapers (all sizes), baby wipes, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, and paper towels.  Please drop off donations in the designated box inside the library, when the library is open.  Thank you for helping our community!

Today in history...

October 12, 1492 was the day that a sailor on the Pinta sighted land. It wasn't until 1792 that we have a record of the United States celebrating Columbus Day. The celebration was organized by the Society of St. Tammany, also known as the Columbian Order, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Columbus' landing.

National Bake & Decorate Month

Every October, food crafting company Wilton Enterprises celebrates National Bake and Decorate Month. This holiday acknowledges the art of baking and decorating. With Halloween just around the corner (not to mention Thanksgiving and Christmas!), now is the time to take advantage of all those neat seasonal ingredients and work some magic in the kitchen.
