Researching Asian-Pacific American History & Genealogy

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, so this month I’m going to share some resources for researching Asian-Pacific American history & genealogy.  Some of the most well known events tied to the Asian experience in the United States are negative:  the Chinese Exclusion Acts and the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. 

Children: Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month with a fish craft and lots more fun!

        Freeman Library will be celebrating Asian Pacific Heritage Month on Wednesday afternoon May 22 with activities that the whole family can enjoy.   This year's spotlighted country is India.   The activities will be held in the Community  Room from 4:30-7:00 pm.  No tickets are needed for this program - just drop on in.

The activities include learning to wrap a sari, henna designs and a fun fish craft.  There also will be music and coloring sheets.    This program is made possible by the generous donations of the Friends of Freeman Library. 

Teens' Choice Film Festival!

Stop by the Teen Zone and voice your choice!  Pick up a ballot and vote for your favorite chick flicks in the next week.  The winning movie will be shown on June 3rd at 4:30 pm.

 

Spin Art Program for Children on Monday, May 20@ 4:30 pm

Jennifer Reichardt of Bricks4Kidz brings lots of fun and colorful Lego bricks to Freeman Library on Monday, May 20 at 4:30 pm.  Children ages 5-11 years old will learn about the concept of centrifugal force as they put together a spin machine.  They'll use it to create a spin art project.

Tickets are required.  They are free and available at the Kids Information Desk starting 30 minutes before the program.

 

Girl Scout Express (GSE) Session 5 Launched!

The Clear Lake City - County Freeman Branch Library continues its “Girl Scout Express!” (GSE)  program that's designed for Girl Scouts and Girl Scout Leaders with busy schedules. On Thursday, May 16th, written guides for Girl Scout Journeys will be available via Google Drive. Session 5 will be posted online on Google Drive for the following Girl Scout Journeys:

- A World of Girls (Brownie Scouts) (Sessions 5 & 6)
