1001 Books before Kindergarten

In January 2014, Harris County Public Library launched a new early literacy program: 1001 Books before Kindergarten. In March of 2015, Claire, a Clear Lake City – County Freeman Branch Library customer, reached the 1001 book mark becoming the first child to complete the program! Congratulations, Claire and family!

Claire reached the goal fairly quickly, but a more leisurely pace is just as good. If your child reads one book a day, s/he will reach 1001 books in under three years. The program seeks to improve important reading skills, but even more, it’s about the time spent together reading for the sheer pleasure it brings.

Preschool Book Party: How Do Dinosaurs....

Preschoolers (3-5 years old) are invited to a Preschool Book Party this Friday morning April 24 at 10:15 am.  Tickets are required.  They are free and will be given out at 10:00 am when the library opens.  The brief storytime will feature books about dinosaurs -  especially the How Do Dinosaurs...series by Jane Yolen.  There also will be other fun activities to celebrate our love of dinosaurs!
