LEGO Robotics Camp returns for four Saturdays in July

The USA LEGO Robotics Camp returns to Freeman Library on Saturdays July 9, 16, 23, and 30.  This fun camp is for children 7-11 years old.  The children work in pairs to put LEGO projects together using a program on a laptop.  They learn math, science, and engineering concepts.  They also practice social skills such as sharing and cooperation.

Due to the popularity of this camp, we hold a drawing for spots in the camp.  The registration for the drawing will be at the Kids Information Desk through Wednesday, June 22.  Children whose names are drawn for the camp will be notified by Friday, July 1.  For questions, please contact the Children's Dept. at 281-488-1906.

Shaheen Rahman's Ebru on Display in the Internet Cafe

We're honored to host "The Art of Ebru" by Shaheen Rahman in the Internet Cafe this summer. From now through the end of August, patrons may enjoy viewing the traditional Turkish art of paper-marbling known as "Ebru." Shaheen Rahman is an art-lover and artist who has enjoyed painting with watercolors for the last 10 years. Recently, she immersed herself in practicing Ebru. This fascinating technique involves painting on the surface of water using styli, combs and rakes. The painting is then transferred onto paper, revealing exquisite patterns which can include stylized flora and fauna. She likes to incorporate Arabesque motifs and calligraphy into Ebru for a wide variety of expression through this medium.
