Child Safety Event at the Library / Evento de seguridad infantil en la biblioteca

Child ID[En español abajo] An estimated 460,000 children are reported missing every year in the United States. The timely and accurate distribution of child identification information plays a critical role in locating missing children. Volunteers from the Child ID Program will be at the Aldine Library on Thursday, February 21, at 10:30 am to make FREE ID cards for your kids. This ID system was created with help from law enforcement officials to ensure it captures all of the vital information required by the Amber Alert system. They are completely free, and the process only takes about 5 minutes per child. No information about the child is kept by anyone other than the parent or guardian.

Calling Me HomeFor our next meeting on Wednesday, February 20, at 1 pm, we are reading “Calling Me Home” by Julie Kibler. Copies are available for checkout at the library. It’s about Isabelle, an 89-year-old white woman, who asks a huge favor of her hairdresser, Dorrie, a black single mom. Isabelle wants Dorrie to drop everything and drive her from Texas to a funeral in Cincinnati. Tomorrow. With no explanation. Dorrie reluctantly agrees.
