Zombie Awareness Month

Did you know that May is Zombie Awareness Month?  That it is a time to bring awareness about zombies and the possibility of a future zombie apocalypse?  If you did not, then you need to read some books about the walking dead and how to not become one.  Lurch on over to the library and check our display of zombie reading and get a leg up on how to avoid being undead and unread.

Summer Volunteering

Do you like books?  Are you good at organizing and alphabetizing?  Do you enjoy being around kids, and dressing up in fun costumes?  If you are 14 years old, or older, you can apply to volunteer to help with Summer Reading, shelving, and more.  Orientation is Monday, June 6, at 10:30 AM.  Stop by the library for an application, or get one right here.

Jungle Books

If you are interested in animals that live in the jungle, then you want to check out one of the library's newest displays, "Jungle Books."  The display is a selection of picture books featuring stories that take place in the jungle and some of the animals that live there.  So, it's time to go on safari to the Fairbanks Branch and check out some books to take home and share with family and friends.  Happy Reading!

Upcoming events at the Fairbanks Library

Teens in 6th -12th grades are invited to join us this week, on Friday the 13th, at 3:30 pm, for a scary movie about a family that is trying to prevent evil spirits from trapping their comatose child in a realm called the Further. Click here to find out the title. This movie is rated PG-13. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.

Also, as a result of our recent flood, a group call Texans Recovering Together will be presenting a program in the library’s meeting room on Wednesday, May 18, at 1:30, about disaster assistance and recovery. Click here for a larger view of the flyer.

Comics & Graphic Novels

It is almost time for the school semester to end and that means that you can keep on reading but select some of the fun books you would like to read.  Some of those books may be comics and graphic novels, so the library has a special display of comics and graphic novels that are in the library collection.  Take a look on your next visit to the library and you may find some titles you will want to read when summer vacation starts--or read now, too!  Happy Reading!
