Blood Drive! We Want Yours!

The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will conduct a blood drive on Monday, November 23rd from 1:30 to 6 pm at the Kingwood Branch Library.  Now is your chance to "Commit for Life" by donating blood.  Consider it your gift to the community, especially as the holiday season is getting under way.  Call 281-360-6804 for more information or to schedule an appointment to donate.

Local Author Visit!

Join us in welcoming local author John Cape (pictured left) this Saturday, November 14th, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  Mr. Cape will be present to discuss his most recently published book, Oil Dusk, which, according to the author's website, is  summarized as follows:  "The MacCasland family struggles to survive when the dollar crashes and the United States is starved for oil. Gas prices soar, store shelves empty and jobs are almost nonexistent. When brutal gangs start looting, it becomes clear that anyone still living in the suburbs needs a Plan B."

No doubt all of us have heard of the two things most certain in life.  Strangely enough, on Wednesday, November 11th, you'll have the chance to hear about both at the library!  Join us in the morning at 11:00 AM as presenter Alfee Davis offers information on all that is involved and all to consider with the unfortunate but necessary business of planning a funeral (also available Monday, November 9th, at 6:30 PM).  Later in the evening at 7:00 PM, also on Wednesday, Paula Korber, a tax professional with H & R Block, will offer her knowledge in an open session on any and all tax-related questions you might have in anticipation of yet another income tax season.  Both of these sessions are free, and no registration is required.  Join us for a day of free and informative programming!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

  I love the sound of rain on the roof. There’s nothing better than a good rain, and if I can have thunder and lightning, it is even better. However, I have hair issues, so I want that rain to come at night or on a day when I can stay home and get comfy with a good book. 

The lack of rain this summer has been one of those good thing/bad thing dilemmas. It is hard to keep grass, flowers and other flora alive and well when we are in a drought situation. But it definitely helped to keep the new library project on target. For some reason, builders prefer a dry season when working. Must be something about working in the mud!
