New Titles Added to Library Collection

In case you haven’t discovered it yet, there is a link on the Harris County library website that give a list of titles of books, books on CD, DVDs, and music CDs that have been added to the collection within the last thirty days. That link can be found by clicking on the tab that says “books” on our home page. “New Titles” is the first selection. When you click on New Titles, you will get links to the new items that have been added to the collection, as well as items that are On Order. A request can be placed on any item so that you will be contacted when the item is ready for you.

Genealogy at the Library

Cover of Who Do You Think You Are?The library has two databases that can be used in genealogical research: Ancestry.com and Heritage Quest. A library computer must be used to access Ancestry.com, but Heritage Quest can be used at home with your library card number. In addition to the databases, the library has books to help in researching your family history, such as:

 

TEXAS LIBRARY SNAPSHOT DAY

Tuesday, April 27 we will be celebrating Texas Library Snapshot Day at La Porte Community Library. All over Texas libraries are asked to devote one day during the week of April 26- May 7 to compiling statistics on how their communities use their libraries. We have chosen this Tuesday. We will be logging how many people come through our doors, how many programs we hold and their attendance numbers, how busy our computers are and a host of other kinds of information.

So drop by and help us show how integral your library is to you.

Old Photo of Former Entrance to Sylvan Beach ParkGet ready for the 54th Annual Sylvan Beach Festival Crawfish Jam 2010! Gates will open this Saturday, April 24, at 9 a.m. The festival will kick off with a parade which will begin at 10:00 am. The parade will start on the corner of Fairmont Parkway and Broadway.  Activities at the park begin immediately following the parade, with many exciting things to enjoy including live entertainment, food, arts & crafts booths, cook-off, a carnival, pageant, and much more.
 
Admission is $5 from 9:00 am-5:00 pm and $10 after 5:00 pm, $2 for senior citizens, and free for children 10 and under accompanied by an adult.  For more information, call the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce at 281-471-1123.
