AARP Offers Free Tax Assistance at Stratford Library

The AARP will be offering free tax assistance every Tuesday at Stratford Library beginning Feb 7, 2012 until Apr 17, 2012.  Assistance hours are from 11 am - 3 pm on a first come, first served basis.   Please bring the following items with you:

Book Club Reads Mark Zusak's Compelling Tale

The book club will cover The Book Thief this February.  Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.

Expand Your Computer Knowledge!

Our computer classes continue to grow at Stratford Library! We are offering several new courses including Google Maps, Advanced Email, Shopping Online, and more.  And as always, our Computer Basics for those just beginning to use a computer and our Resume and Job Hunting workshop will be available as well.  All classes are free.  Just stop by or call the information desk at (281) 426-3521 for class times, more details, and to sign up to reserve your spot.

Job Hunting in the Computer Age

It seems as though more and more businesses are relying on the internet as the main avenue for recruiting for open positions.  Don't get left behind!  The Stratford Library is hosting seminars in December to help job seekers take advantage of those online postings.  Bring in your paper resumes and give them a computer facelift!  This free two hour seminar will include how to design and lay out a resume on the computer, how to apply to internet postings, and how to transmit resumes online and through email.  We are offering two sessions:

Monday, December 12th at 5:30 pm

Wed, December 14th at 11:00 am
