Create Your Business Plan: A "Hands-On" Workshop by SCORE

This Saturday, from 10:30-noon, we are hosting a free SCORE workshop that's important to new business owners. A solid business plan is essential to gaining access to capital and to truly understanding your business today and in the future. We cannot recommend this too highly.

SCORE's EzyBusPlan Training workshop will walk you through the twelve critical elements of every business plan. It will teach you how to create your own customized business model; how to assess the competitive quality of your business model; how to convert worksheet data into a professional business plan that lenders will appreciate and that you can use to help focus and grow your business.

Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. in Room E-100, just inside the Commons Building. Everyone is welcome.

Adult Coloring Program this Thursday!

On Thursday, October 29th, from 2-4 pm, we'll be offering you the chance to come and discover the joy of adult coloring in a 2 hour coloring fest here at the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library. We’ll have pages for you to color from the bestselling coloring books, “Secret Garden” by Johanna Basford, “Fantastic Cities” by Steve McDonald, and “Balance” by Angie Grace. Relax so you can get lost in this meditative activity. Coloring pages, felt markers and coloring pencils will also be provided. So make it a date; come with a friend or come alone.  Look for us behind the elevators in the 'Sun Room'...

Try on a Digital Costume During Tuesday Toddler Time

Halloween is around the corner, do you have your costume yet? If you do, wear it to any story time next week, but if not, no worries. During play time after Tuesday's toddler time, you will have the chance to create a 30 second video wearing the digital costume of your choice using the free FlipLip app on an Ipad. You can be a mermaid, a prince, a princess a pirate or even a stuffed bear. You may then choose the voice of a princess or a robot, a Chipmunk,  Zeuss and more. You video may even be selected to appear on our branch Facebook page. Call Christie in the children's department if  you have questions or we will see you at 10:30, Tuesday, October 27th.

Texas Bluebonnet Books Announced!

At the Texas Book Festival in Austin this past weekend, the 2016-2017 master list of Bluebonnet Award Books was announced.  Chosen by a selection committee, the list includes both fiction and non-fiction titles, taking into account student interests, relevant content, reviews and literacy quality.  HCPL owns numerous copies of every book on the list and will be adding more copies in the next few months.  The Children's Department has a Bluebonnet Book Club for children in grades 3-5 that meets the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at 1:30 pm from September through January.  In January, all club members and other homeschool children (who have listened to or read at least 5 of the titles) cast ballots for their favorite book.  Their votes along with other participating groups are tabulated and the Author is given the Bluebonnet Award at the Texas Library Association's annual meeting held in April - quite an honor as you can imagine!  Next time you are in the library, check out one of these fabulous books for your child to enjoy!  **public school children vote at their school library.
