We have great news to share!

Recently the Friends of the Tomball Community Library applied for and received a community donation of $2500 from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust. This donation will be used to strengthen the early literacy initiative at the Lone Star College-Tomball Community Library through the addition of books to the Children’s collection, as well as support for Choo Choo Club (a weekly early literacy program held during the school year) and story times. We are very excited about this opportunity!

The H-E-B Tournament of Champions is an annual golf tournament currently in its 34th year that raises money to support organizations and programs that positively impact youth in Texas. The Children’s team at the LSC-Tomball Community Library is honored to have been selected as one of the community recipients this year. Early literacy concepts form the foundation of all learning, and the Children’s team is excited to continue to offer quality programs and services that help children flourish.

Thank you, H-E-B Tournament of Champions! #HEBTOC

LSC-Tomball, Tomball ISD and Harris County Public Library Partner on Tomball Community Art Showcase

Tomball Community Art Showcase FlyerArtists of all ages in the Tomball area now have a way to exhibit their creative work.  A new partnership comprised of Tomball ISD, Lone Star College-Tomball and the Harris County Public Library announced the launch of the Tomball Community Art Showcase.  The showcase will exhibit visual and performing artwork created by students from Tomball ISD, LSC-Tomball and by local artists from the Tomball area.

A grand opening celebration, which will be free and open to the public, is planned for Thursday, March 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the LSC-Tomball Community Library, which will also be the home for the Tomball Community Art Showcase.

“This is truly an extraordinary partnership that is indicative of the collaborative culture of the City of Tomball. We are committed to providing access and educational experiences that extend beyond the college campus and benefit the Tomball area community,” said Dr. Lee Ann Nutt, President of LSC-Tomball.

The grand opening celebration will highlight select creative works by Tomball ISD art students and LSC-Tomball students will provide live entertainment.  Light refreshments will be served.

“The Tomball Community Arts Showcase is an amazing opportunity for our district to continue our dynamic partnership with LSC- Tomball and begin a rich collaboration with the Harris County Public Library,” said Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora, Tomball ISD Superintendent of Schools.  She is especially excited about the partnership’s impact on Tomball. “The commitment to education, the arts and our community makes Tomball a Destination and we are honored to have the opportunity to showcase our talented students’ artwork in a beautiful space.”

The LSC-Tomball Community Library has created exhibit areas throughout several common areas in the library.  Plans are underway to provide secure display cases for fragile pieces and valued collections.

Janna Hoglund, HCPL co-director of the LSC-Tomball Community Library, believes there are a lot of talented artists of all ages in the Tomball area and providing a venue to exhibit these works will enrich the community, “We are thrilled to be partners in the effort to organize exhibitions and educational programs that offer enjoyment and engagement with art of all kinds that’s been created by local students and members of our community.”

Children's Department Receives Grant!

Congratulations to the Children's Department for receiving a community donation from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust.  Last Fall, the Friends of the Tomball Community Library applied for and received this grant which will be used to strengthen the library's ongoing early literacy initiatve programming held during the school year.  In addition to books for the collection, the grant will be used to further support Choo Choo Club, the weekly early literacy program started 9 years ago as well as other similar programs.  The Children's Department is honored to be selected as one of the community recipients this year and to have their hard work recognized.  *the H-E-B Tournament of Champions is an annual golf tournament, now in it's 34th year, that raises money to support organizations and programs that positively impact youth in Texas.

Weekly Story Times and Choosing the Right One for Your Child!

Story Times at the Library are fun, engaging and most importantly, carefully planned and geared for specific age groups.  With that in mind, we offer story times for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.  To assist you in choosing the right story time,  please see the below guidelines for ages, times and what to expect at each one:

  • Baby Bookworms - Mondays @ 9:30 am  (recommended for newborn - walker in training).  This first story time experience is for you and your baby to enjoy songs that include rocking, tummy-time, bouncing, tickling and scarf-time.
  • Read and Play - Mondays @ 10:30 am (recommend for walkers - 18 months).  This story time will include more complex motor-skills and activities related to standing and walking.  It will be accompanied by bubble-time (where the children can chase the bubbles and pop them) as well as singing songs while shaking a small parachute.
  • Toddler Time - Tuesdays @ 10:30 and Wednesdays @ 9:30 (18 months - 3 years).  This story time will include at least 2 stories, fingerplays, songs, fine motor activities, parachute play, an occasional craft and play time with other children.
  • Preschool Story Time - Wednesdays and Thursdays @ 10:30 am (ages 3 - 5 years).  This story time is themed and geared for the child who is preschool or kindergarten bound.  The expectation is that children in attendance are able to quietly sit and listen to 3 books and participate in songs, fingerplays and other activities led by the librarian with little to no assistance from their parent or caregiver. Parachute play and an age appropriate craft is included each week.

With these guidelines in mind, please choose the story time that is right for the age and stage of your child so that they are able to have the best overall experience.  If in doubt, please ask a librarian for assistance!

*all Toddler Times and Preschool Story Times require tickets to attend.  They are FREE and available 30 minutes prior to the start time at the Children's Reference Desk.
