9/11 is an appropriate day to write about the book Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safron Foer. As mentioned in last week’s blog, this is the selection for this year’s Gulf Coast Reads . Our book discussion will be on Wednesday, October 17 from 10:30 – 11:30.
There are numerous lists on the Internet of discussion questions for the book. (Note: some of the discussion questions contain spoilers.) One such website is LitLovers , a website for book clubs founded by Molly Lundquist , a former college English professor who wants to spread her love for literature. Included in this website is a Reading Guide for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. This reading guide provides a summary of the book, information about the author, and Discussion Questions . Another set of discussion questions can be found at BookBrowse .
Questions that seems appropriate for today are: “Did reading the book bring back memories of 9/11 for you? Do you remember how you felt in the days and weeks that followed that event? Do you remember what scared you? What were you grateful for?”
As you read the book, please ponder some of the discussion questions for the book, or create questions of your own to ask the group. Write down comments you would like to make or quotes from the book you would like to share.
Next week I will blog about some of my favorite quotes from the first part of the book.
