Ahoy, mateys! Did ye know that next Wednesday, September 19th be Talk Like a Pirate Day [1]? Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ye ready?
If not, you can brush up on your Pirate speak by heading to our Mango Languages database [2]. To get there, first head to our website, HCPL.net [3]. Click on the Databases [4] tab and then select “Languages [5]”. Click on the Mango Languages database [2]. You will have to enter your library card number to access Mango Languages outside of the library.
Once in, you will be prompted to either log in or create a profile. Creating a profile is good if you want to track your progress on learning a language, but it’s probably unnecessary if all you want to do is learn Pirate speak. Instead you can just select “Start Learning”. Choose the Pirate “foreign course”, launch it, select a lesson, and yo-ho-ho you’re good to go!
