Growing up in Indiana, I remember seeing the Amish in their buggies being pulled along by horses as our parents drove us around different parts of the state. It always fascinated me to see other people dressed in different clothing and using a different kind of transportation to get around. I wondered what it would be like to live that way. I never thought that some of the Amish might be looking at me and wondering the same thing.
Now, TLC is airing a show about some young adults in the Amish community (and one from the Mennonite community) who are wondering what it would be like to live in our world. "Breaking Amish" follows the group as they leave their various communities to live in New York City. They must decide whether they want to go back to the Amish way or stay in the city and live their lives in the "English" world.
